Questions to give thought to before buying
a puppy/dog:
Rat Terrier are a loving
and intelligent dog; they’re very affectionate and make wonderful companions to
all ages! Not only are they easy to train with their eagerness to please,
they also make excellent watch dogs. They come in different sizes and colors!

Merle to Merle breeding is NOT
RECOMMENDED.
We utilize
the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) to have our breeding dogs
checked for hereditary health problems, particularly PLL. We do
this to reduce the risk of genetic issues in our offspring and while this
is no guarantee that it will ever happen, we do our best to reduce the
risks of it happening to the pups that we breed!
ALL of our Rat Terriers test Clear for PLL!!!
PLL is a genetic eye disease that causes blindness.

We have
toy and tot size rat
terrier. They are the result of many years of selective breeding to
insure the correct temperament (Rat-A-Tude) that we all love so much. With
the BIG dog in a TINY package, you just can not go wrong! The wonderful
rainbow of colors, not just the classic black and white tri's. They are
very smart, easy to train. Their short coats make them easy to care for.
They are very playful and active, but also love to cuddle on your lap.
They are great watch dogs, good mousers, and wonderful family pets. We
raise only the Type A, which has the longer leg and erect ears.
Best dogs for apartment pets, agility, hunting,
lapdogs, yorkies, Maltese, papillons, poodles, toy poodles
*nbt* is an abbreviation which means the pup
is born with a natural bobbed tail. It is
recommended to NOT breed a NBT with another NBT.
Rat terriers are a lot of fun! we have 9 rat terriers living at our
house in Arizona. Our family loves to go places with the rat terriers and
like to play with the rat terrier with the puppies. A lot of times we take
the rat terrier with us on road trips to places like California, northern
Arizona and to all the miniature horse shows we go to. Rat Terriers are
great companions, they're easy to train, eager to please, and pretty
healthy dogs. The rat terrier comes in several different sizes, tiny tots,
toys, miniature and deckers which are large. Rat Terriers are a very
colorful breed, may even be one of the only breeds to offer such a variety
of color. Colors can be either tri or bi's, and in
colors that includes from blue, black, brown, chocolate, sable, pearl,
lemon, apricot, white, tan, calico, harlequin rat terriers, brindle's rat
terriers, golden brindle rat terriers, blue rat terriers, chocolate rat
terriers, chocolate Merle rat terriers, apricot rat terriers, sable rat
terriers, red Merle, blue Merle tuxedo rat terriers and more colors can
come out of these breeding's also. We are specifically breeding our rat
terriers for the merle color pattern in blue, and black at this time. All
of our rat terriers are healthy, disease free, and are well rounded dogs.
Rat Terriers make
wonderful pets for the elderly as they are just as content to lay at your
feet, in your lap or next to you all day every day as long as you do give
them a period of time outside to run off their energy. They make superb
pets for children as they can play endlessly and they have a natural
instinct to protect young children. They make great companions for any age
with their comical expressions, their thousand facial expressions, their
willingness to learn and their keen spirit to please those around them.
Rat Terriers are not yappy dogs but can be vocal if they sense there is
trouble or when a stranger is around. They however are very social and
once they find that their owners approve of the stranger they will be the
first to shake their hand for a pet on the head.
Rat Terriers are very curious creatures and can get in predicaments that
they sometime need help getting out of. They've been known to climb trees,
climb ladders, vault fences and end up in some of the most unusual places.
They are very eager and find themselves sometimes stuck in a hole that
wasn't quite large enough for them but going in is so much easier than
coming out!
Rat Terriers were thought once to be a "Hunting" type dog but has gained
popularity over the last 10 years as being one of the top on the list for
companion and working dogs. Rat Terriers are now being shown, kept as
companions, used as herding dogs, narcotic dogs and in the field of search
and rescue and of course they can still track a deer, run a fox and rabbit
into the ground and tree a squirrel.
