Our initial horse, Angel, was a back yard
pet. We felt she would be fun for us and also provide 'therapy'
for our godson and several developmentally disabled children from
families we knew.
Angel got us involved in the Mini Horse
community. The new friends we met through the "mini horse" community
talked us into attending a horse show. Soon after that we bought
our first mini to show, our initial plans were to just show at the
children's level. We quickly became involved in horse shows,
and all of us have now shown our horses at least once.
I didn't particularly like showing: To me it was
like having my children judged. I just don't understand how they
couldn't take first every time!
For fun we took the horses to our kids
school and discovered how much children responded to the horses.
Andrew and I
fell in love with bringing the horses to see other kids. We found that
it was especially rewarding to take them to meet children with
disabilities. Kids who normally don't respond to anything
responded to the mini horses, it
is incredibly rewarding!
We have had the horses all over, from elementary
schools to the children's pediatric dental office for a Christmas Party,
to Parades, and Senior homes, and we've had a blast!
From our love for dogs, we've moved into breeding
what we consider to be the BEST all around dog, Miniature Rat Terriers!
